STOCHASTIC OPTIMAL CONTROL OF A ROCKET LANDING

ABSTRACT

The project of stochastic optimal control of rocket landing is inspired by the SpaceX efforts to develop a new set of technologies for an orbital launch system that may be reused multiple times in a manner similar of reusability of aircraft, which would dramatically reduce the costs of various space  mission. In this, we will be using dynamic programming and  approximate dynamic programming techniques to design an automatic feedback controller for landing the booster stage of reusable rocket. Project mainly focuses on the final vertical landing mission segment. To achieve this, we have made four tasks – Trajectory Optimization, Autonomous vertical landing feedback controller design, Certainty equivalent MPC design with input constraints, Multiplicative stochastic engine dynamics.

STOCHASTIC OPTIMAL CONTROL OF A ROCKET LANDING: About

MY WORK

  • Used dynamic programming and approximate dynamic programming methods to design an automatic feedback controller for landing the booster stage of a reusable rocket (As inspired by SpaceX Falcon 9)

  • Optimized the system with external and internal disturbances using open-loop and closed-loop control policy to land accurately.
